It's Nigerian Independence Day and the only thing anyone's talking about is the revelation that Skepta is now dating Adele. Not exactly, but in the country's 59th year of independence, Nigerians around the world are celebrating with bold displays of Naija love. Sometimes, that comes in the form of dope music drops like Wizkid's "Joro" and Burna Boy's "Another Story," a song and video that sheds light on Nigeria's history and reframes the image of the country.

Sometimes that country pride is wrapped up in post that captures the speech from former Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa that started it all:

Whatever the vibe, Nigerians all over the world are taking to the Internet to join in on the day. The tone on social media is a mix of unabashed pride, hope for the future and pain at the obstacles many citizens wish were overcome. Actually, Falz's 2018 viral version of "This is Nigeria" sums up the sentiments quite nicely–respect for roots and oozing creativity but cognizant of the need for more change.
